Around the cabin: Hochatown and Broken Bow
Highwood sits on Carter Mountain in the Ouachita forest, in the Broken Bow area and about six miles north of Hochatown. The lake and the state park are a short drive. The street address is not listed here. Confirmed guests receive it through Airbnb.
Beavers Bend State Park
Beavers Bend State Park follows the Mountain Fork River where it meets Broken Bow Lake. The park is the usual day out from a Hochatown cabin: wooded trails, picnic spots along the water, and a nature center. It is an Oklahoma state park, so day-use rules and hours are posted by the park, not by us. If you want a day outside and then a quiet night back at the cabin, this is the place people mean when they say Broken Bow.
Broken Bow Lake
Broken Bow Lake is the long Ouachita reservoir beside the park. In warm months people come for the shoreline, boat ramps, and time on the water. The lake is public, and what is open depends on the season and on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the state park. We do not run a marina, and the cabin is not on the water. Think of the lake as a nearby day, then dinner back on the deck.
Hochatown
Hochatown is the small town just south of the cabin, with restaurants, coffee, and shops built around the cabin weekend. It is the closest place to pick up groceries or eat out if you do not want to cook. Broken Bow, the larger town, is farther on and has the everyday stores. We do not take a commission on any of those businesses, and this page does not rank them. Go look, then come back to the fire pit.
